Like John, my Makita has a graphite pad on the platen & it never gets more than just a little warm. I'm sure the heat is a contributing factor to your problem. I bet you could add a graphite pad to yours. That 3 x 24 Makita is just a beast of a machine. I've had mine for about 35 years & it still runs as good as new.
