Classification of Plant Layout in Production and Operation Management

A typical process layout is shown in Fig. 2.5. The flow paths of material through the facilities from one functional area to another vary from product to product. Usually the paths are long and there will be possibility of backtracking. Process layout is normally used when the production volume is not sufficient to justify a product layout.

Types of layout

Types of layout There are mainly four types of plant layout: (a) Product or line layout (b) Process or functional layout (c) Fixed position or location layout (d) Combined or group layout (a) Product or Line layout In an industrial set up, sometime, the machines and equipments are arranged in one line depending upon the sequence of …

Side and face milling to machine adjacent horizontal and vertical surfaces simultaneously. Form milling to produce the prismatic shape of any form, e.g., involute form in gear cutting. Straddle milling to machine two parallel vertical faces. Gang milling to machine a number of surfaces simultaneously with a set of cutters.

Process Layouts: Definition, Benefits and Examples

A process layout is a type of facility layout. Organizations often use process layouts to design floor plans and arrange equipment for maximized efficiency. Plants with a process layout may arrange work stations, machinery, tools and other equipment in groups according to the functions they perform.

HIGmill high intensity grinding mill

HIGmill™ has a less complex and more compact process layout and flow sheet than other stirred media mills. The process comprises just a scalping cyclone with no circulating load, feed tank and pump, and the mill itself. The benefit of high power intensity and vertical installation is a very small footprint.
