D&S Performance is doing the Sportster 68 tooth conversion. On a 2008 you will lose the wheel cushion thing as the sprocket has to bolt to the wheel. You will also need a wheel spacer to take up the place of the wheel cushion parts, plus a pulley mounting kit (bolts and washers).

Yes, it's more work going with the 30 tooth front because you have to remove the swing arm, but that's the route I chose. Guys looking for stop light to stop light performance (as mentioned in the post you referred to) aren't going to see a big improvement with just a 68 tooth rear sprocket change.

Not sure if a one tooth difference would require changing the primary chain. You could change the front pulley to the 34t, this may require a different size belt, but if you are still running the original belt, it is time for a new one anyway. Or change the rear pulley to a 65t, but that would also require a new belt.
