14-bolt shaft flanges are small enough that they can be turned down to pass a 5-lug wheel center over with out getting into the retaining bolts, hence the reason folks typically do this with a 14B hub. You could open up the hole in the wheels, but then your getting more in to custom parts. Sounds like the double-spline is your better option.
