Oct 01, 2010· Doniambo was first built in 1910 using blast furnace technology, and has continually evolved in technology and scale. Doniambo converted to RKEF technology in 1958, and presently produces ferronickel (80%) and matte (20%), with 2008 production of 51.1 kt Ni making it the second largest laterite producer (Warner et al., 2006, Eramet, 2009).
The latter closed in 1931, when the nickel smelting plant at Doniambo passed into the control of SLN (now a part of Eramet). The Doniambo smelter was expanded in 1958 [2]. Doniambo's annual production has risen threefold from about 20 kt in 1960 to about 60 kt in 2002.
The process goes beyond the exchange of mere «basic» information gathering. The Logimine' system inter-faces with production vehicles equipped with GPS and radio antennae. It establishes loading time, distance, vehicle time traveled and speed etc., and transmits the cycle data from the loading site to the port or dump site.
